Student Competencies
 
Patient Care
The student will be able to:
1.      describe how to review charts and gather accurate and necessary information prior to the visit.
2.      show how a team facilitates introductions, group process, discussions and closings.
3.      define the components of a brief medical exam for the medical issue focus for the group medical visit.
 
Medical Knowledge
The student will be able to:
1.      summarize the important aspects of the medical condition that is the focus of the group medical visit.
2.      identify an educational presentation that could be presented during the group visit.
3.      describe self management goals and action plans that are related to the particular
      condition.
 
Practice Base Learning and Improvement
The student will be able to:
1.      define the importance and technique of monitoring outcomes for the patient's condition in the EMR or paper chart.
2.      tabulate and document in the EMR or chart the team's defined outcomes and patient's
action plans.                                                                                                                                                        3. define group medical appointments with attention to types of group appointments, benefits of using group appointments, challenges of group appointments
 
 
Interpersonal and Communication Skills
The student will be able to:
1.      define key components of self management goals, action plans and problem solving.
2.      describe how motivational interviewing  techniques can be used to define and establish self management goals and action plans for individual patients.
3.      identify how team members establishe therapeutic relationships with group members.
 
Professionalism
The student will be able to:
1.      demonstrate curiosity, mindfulness, presence and respect for all group members, being sensitive to age, culture, illness, gender and disability.
2.      identify how the team follows up with patient action plans after the group
      visit.
 
System Based Practice
The student will be able to:
1.      name and collect all practice base forms including introductory letters,
      curriculum, HIPPA forms, confidentiality forms, progress notes in the paper chart or
      the EMR.
2.  summarize key components of patient progress notes for the group medical visit.
3.   identify elements of billing for the group medical visit.
